I have underestimated the power of peer influence. I had given up reading Chanakyaneeti after the slokas made repeated mentions of 'wife's duty'. Picking up the book this evening, choosing to adapt the convenient couplets, I am surprised at the outright rejection of friendly ties that Chanakya points to as a solution to bad company (phew! Long sentence that).
We tend to believe in never losing friends. Never pushing away friends from you lives (unless they turn sour ex-lovers). I for one have never denied frandship!
But the way Chanakya says how my life will be easier, happier and fruitful professionally if I choose to throw away the rotten apples, is such a convincing argument.
